Kieran is an NSF GRFP fellow and PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at CMU co-affiliated with INFER lab and SALUS lab. His research focuses on engineering the built environment to create socially connected communities and address the “Epidemic of loneliness”.

This involves collecting and modeling data from humans (surveys, interviews), buildings (embedded sensor design and deployment), and the urban environment (street view images, census data, POIs).

Prior to CMU, Kieran earned a B.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) working with Mike Todd. During this time, he was a summer fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, built a bridge interning in Glacier National Park, and led the UCSD steel bridge team.
