Paper accepted for SmartGridComm’13

A paper written by Emre Can Kara and Mario Berges in collaboration with Zico Kolter from the School of Computer Science, Tugce Yuksel from Mechanical Engineering, Gabriela Hug and Bruce Krogh from Electrical and Computer Engineering is accepted for publication in the proceedings of the IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm’13). The paper introduces a moving window state estimator that is used to infer the information regarding operating statuses and internal temperatures of thermostatically controlled loads from their aggregate power consumption, replacing the need for an upstream communication platform carrying information from appliances to the main controller in real-time.
