Our 2012 IEEE SmartGridComm Paper Was Accepted for Publication

Our paper entitled “Using Smart Devices for System-level Management and Control in the Smart grid: A Reinforcement Learning Framework” has been accepted for publication in the 2012 IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm).

In this paper we present a classical Markov Decision Process (MDP) based framework for leveraging a large heterogeneous population of small thermostatically controlled loads in buildings to provide ancillary services to the power grid. Model-free reinforcement learning techniques were used to generate suitable control policies that produce results that are comparable to those obtained via model-based approaches in the existing literature.
