About: Emre Can Kara

Emre Can Kara was born and raised in Adana, Turkey: a gastronomically festive city between Taurus Mountains and the beloved Mediterranean Sea. He had spent wonderful 4 years, enjoyed the astonishing view of Bosphorus during his daily walks to Bogazici University, where he has received his B.Sc. degree in civil engineering. In 2008, he moved to Delft, a minuscule but cheerful town located in the Netherlands. He received his M.Sc. degree from Delft University of Technology in building engineering focusing on sustainability of the built environment. He joined the INFERLab in January 2011. He is interested in the interaction of smart devices with the physical environment by means of sensing, learning and pro-active control. In particular, he is investigating optimum monitoring, adaptation and control strategies that existing buildings can offer to leverage demand side management techniques for the smart power grid. He is currently a Research Affiliate at the Demand Response Research Center, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
